I am SO SORRY for all the emails and texts and instant messages you all have been receiving. This has been a horrible experience for me and such a huge ordeal. I'm still not even close to clearing all this up. This deceitful person stole my identity and with that, took over my computer, all my contacts (emptied them from my "address" book program on my computer), hacked into my phone (!), changed the password to yahoo, flickr, facebook and the list goes on! I have NO IDEA who this horrible person is and I have no idea how they got my passwords. I've never told anyone but my husband my password and he doesn't even remember it, lol. Thank GOD I have never done online banking and I do not check any credit card balances online nor have I ever registered online with any of my credit cards. Lesson in this: don't use the same password for everything. But ultimately, I have no idea how all this started and I believe something like this can happen to anyone no matter how careful you are. No matter how you are connected and how little or less you do online, you are still susceptible just because you are connected to the internet period. I know, it's scary!

Thank you all for the phone calls, texts, and so forth. I still am unable to get into my mac email where I do all my emailing from. I had to create this new account for the time being. But thank you for your understanding, for alerting me, and thank you for defending me as I know many of you have. I'm sorry this person took over my accounts and brought you into this. I'm not in the UK and I am safe and sound with Neil and my family.

Sad News!!!

I'm writing this with tears in my eyes, I'm sorry for this odd request because it might get to you too urgent but it's because of the situation of things right now, I'm stuck in London United Kingdom right now, i came down here on vacation, i was robbed, worse of it was that bags, cash, cards and my cell phone were stolen off me at GUN POINT, so i only have access to my emails, it was such a crazy and brutal experience for me and i was hurt on my right hand, but i'm glad i still have my life. I need help flying back home, the authorities are not being 100% supportive, i have been to the embassy and the Police here in London, but they're not helping issues at all, but the good thing is that i still have my passport but don't have enough money to sort the bills and get my flight ticket back home, please i need you to loan me some money, i promise to refund it as soon as I'm back home, you can get it to me through western union.

This is me and my son, Noah. Let me explain the picture.

While doing self-portrait pictures, Noah decided to get in on the fun. Not understanding what I was doing, he thought mommy was being incredibly silly. So he asked if I would do pictures of both him and I. This is such a rarity because he normally is sooooo camera shy. I rarely get pictures of him posing, or even looking at the camera for that matter. So, I took him up on this offer in a heartbeat despite the fact that he had just played in my makeup and has lipstick all over his face. Gotta love children. Gotta love Noah.

I just started downloading these pictures from a session I had today with one of my new favorite 4-year olds, Kristin. These are 2 that caught my eye immediately. Kristin will one day soon be my new next door neighbor. Too bad she doesn't like boys because she and Noah are so close in age. Maybe that will one day change. Actually, I have a feeling that will change much quicker than her mom hopes. Doesn't time just fly by? Regardless of her anti-boy antics, I look forward to shooting many pictures of her and her big sisters. What a great subject she is, and what a great day I had with her today.

I have some exciting news! I will soon have a brand new site up in the wide world of websites with a brand new logo and design! I cannot wait! It's main focus will be children & maternity, but of course I will focus on wedding as well still. So, keep checking back for the link to the new site. It's going to be so fun with an added bonus of musical tunes for your browsing pleasure. Also, my favorite addition, a calendar so you can see when I am available so that scheduling your appointments will be easy as pie! How cool is that?!

Also, on the new house front, we just picked a builder, so I hope hope hope that we break ground very soon. (Crossing fingers!) So. . . lots of exciting things around here. I can't wait to update as new happenings take place.

My friend, Tracy, hired me to shoot her spunky little man, Nolan. What a cutie he is! So busy but so very fun! And did I mention cute?! He has the prettiest blue eyes and most adorable button nose. He looks so much like Tracy. A lot like his daddy, too, but I see a whole bunch of Tracy in him. He's about 4 months older than my daughter, reminding me of the fun busy days ahead of me again. It doesn't seem like that long ago that Noah was Nolan's age, but when I see what the age is like again, I really savor the chance to be a part of it again. I can't wait. 3 week beauty

I had the pleasure of shooting a really sweet couple a few weeks ago who just had their first child, a baby girl, 3 weeks prior. I'm really pleased with the shots we got. We had a perfect day with the right amount of light coming through the living room window. Isn't she beautiful? And check out that dimple! To die for!

Miami off - VWC still on!

As most of my current clients know, I was suppose to be moving to Miami next month. Well, a week ago we found out that our move is now off. Hubby is staying and potentionally getting more seniority at his job here in town. The higher-ups decided Miami was not for our family - they are really looking out for our well-beings after really evaluating the situation. While I was very disappointed because mentally, emotionally and physically I was getting ready for a life-changing event, I am secretly happy because this means I don't have to move my business and I don't have to worry about putting off any current or upcoming sessions or picture orders. So . . . please start placing those album orders - I am ready to take them all on once again! - and please don't hesitate to call me for your future photography needs. While I am still shooting weddings, I would like to start concentrating more on my on-location work with your children and families. God Bless and hope to talk to you all soon.

Kind words from a stranger

Not long ago I received one of the most heartening emails ever. It made my day, and today, as I reread it, it makes my WORLD. Thank you, Ashley, for sending this to me. It truly means more than you will ever know. I take such pride and passion in the work I do. I am so excited to know that people, guests (!), feel some of that passion.

Valerie and her photography are amazing! She had not started VWC photography when I got married, but she did take some photos for me on my wedding day just as a friendly favor. Valerie formally photographed my wedding in December
2003--just weeks after having her first baby (like she didn't have
enough on her mind at that time!). Both her work and her work ethic
were phenomenal. When we received the proofs from our big day just
after our honeymoon, my husband and I were thrilled to see the results
of Valerie's much-beloved career. Because our wedding was in December,
we had aChristmasy theme, and Val played on that, taking unique shots,
such as one of the bride and bridesmaids on a walkway amidst the snow,
with each of us ladies wearing the jacket of the groom's party--I've
yet to see another picture like it. She took traditional shots, as
well, but added a classic element by doing some of them in black and
white; those pictures will always be my favorite!

What is so impressive about Val's photography--other than gorgeous shots--
is the work ethic shecontributes to the end result. Valerie's mind seems
to be in step with the inner workings of a camera; for some reason
(probably talent!), she can picture how every scene will look in print,
which allows her to work quickly and effectively. Unlike some wedding
photographers, she doesn't spend a great deal of time rearranging people
in the shot or taking pictures that "just won't do." She knows ahead of time
what will work and can also think quickly on her feet, taking both great posed
and candid pictures without wasting time or film. She's also a "people
person," so even people who hate to be photographed can be cajoled into
smiling when they see her smiling back at them.

Valerie also informally photographed my daughter's first birthday party.
I was so busy that day that I wasn't sure what pictures Val took until I
saw the prints. She captured moments of my daughter and of the party
that I just absolutely treasure: my daughter's trepidation at eating a cake,
her fear of the "Happy Birthday" song, as well as those little details that made
the birthday unique to my daughter--the cake, the guests, and the love of a
great friend and extraordinary photographer! The biggest moments in my
life will hopefully always have "VWC Photography" stamped on the corner!

Our little ones at Christmas

So I decided to share some personal pictures here at this blog. My dear sweet little niece, Ella, turned the big "one" December 23rd. We had her birthday party that weekend before. She had a great time despite being so completely worn out that she didn't get to enjoy her first birthday cake experience, but isn't that how it is for all first-timers? It never seems to go how we hope it will. I think her favorite part of the day was after she finally got in her much-needed nap. She and her cousins, Noah & Maia (my kiddos!), really had a ball when we celebrated Christmas together with O'ma that evening. They all enjoyed their unwrapping of gifts - Ella & Maia enjoying the wrapping itself much more than the gifts themselves, but Noah, being 3 this year, really for the first time enjoyed the presents and their unveilings. Mommy, daddy, Auntie Chel and O'ma all enjoyed watching them have such a grand ol time. I, of course, also enjoyed snapping pictures of them in the mist of their little moments. Hope you enjoy this small glimpse into my personal life with my very favorite people in the entire world on two very special occasions. *smile*

Getting sentimental about my weddings (because of the sappy love songs that I've been playing on my ipod, I suppose . . .) I thought I'd post some pictures . . . a collage of some of my past weddings.

I had a family sitting with one of my first wedding couples today. They reminded me that I was pregnant with my first child when I did their wedding. Wow does time fly. What's the best feeling about that moment was the smile I had on my face embraced with the thought that I was so lucky to be having this chance to photograph my brides and grooms but on such a different level . . . as they get older as a couple, as they have children, as they grow as a family. I feel really blessed to have such a great relationship with my couples. I'm sad that we'll be leaving for a couple years, but hopefully when I get back there will be more babies to shoot pictures of, more family sittings, endless more opporunities for me as a photographer and endless opporunities for my couples as my life long friends.

So my friends and I got together back in August and I finally - finally! - got to see the pictures that I shot. I've been so behind for so many reasons, just finished my last major order of the year, and now I can BREATH! So I dove into my personal photographs from this day and these are some of my favorites. What a fun time we had. And what great subjects I had to work with. My favorite days are those that I spend shooting kids. Ahhh, I just love it.

Power is back up! After 9 long days, we were hooked back up on Saturday morning. Thank Heavens! So, I am back from hiding. I even have a new cell phone so you can now get a hold of me. (Yay!) Hopefully we won't have anymore road blocks for a long time to come. . .

Forgive me

I just wanted to let those of you trying to get a hold of me, that I'm currently "out-of-order" so to speak. Here in town we had a huge ice storm, like probably many of you. And our power is out. It has been since Thursday and is projected to be until Tuesday. Maybe later. While I do finally have access to my internet, I will not have access to any contact info, any pictures, negatives, etc. until I get back and into my work flow and family flow. I am already way behind with the deaths in my family, having my wisdom teeth out and now we have this to add to the shuffle. So please bear with me if you have tried getting a hold of me (I also dropped my phone in water and am awaiting that from the insurance company!) or if you are waiting on orders to arrive. I'm doing my best to have everything back to you and ready for Christmas. Wow, what year! Hopefully next year is a little less exciting. Anyhow, I wish you all a wonderful blessed holiday season. Capturing natural expressions

One of my favorite expressions caught on camera recently

My goal lately has been to catch priceless moments where they happen most - in your home. The perfect "Kodak moments" never happen in a studio. They seem to always happen where children are the most comfortable and where they experience these moments on a regular basis.

How often does a person go to a studio and say "well, she was happy until we walked in the door" or "he was so good yesterday" or "she usually always smiles"? It's probably more times than not. It's because children are not comfortable when they know they are being shot, when they are expected to smile on cue and when they are put under hot lights in a strange environment. That's my own theory anyway.

For me, I find the perfect moments with my own kids when they are enjoying what they love most. Right now, for my son, who is 3, that is playing with his choo-choo trains, putting together a puzzle and singing along to the Spongebob theme song. For my daughter, who is 12 months, that is copying her brother, eating and making a huge mess with her hands, and trying to walk. I'm so glad, that when I am at home with them, that I have my camera in hand to catch most of these moments. I am thankful for the "Kodak moments" that I catch and would love to be able to give you that same opportunity. Just hire me for a few hours and we'll see what I can do. Nothing to lose, right? I can guarantee at least one smile and over 100 priceless shots. How many photographers can guarantee that under hot lights in a 30-minute time period? Not many most likely.

While finishing up the proofing of Kalina and Ben's wedding photos, I discovered some new gems that I would like to do more show and tell with. Hope ya'll don't mind. I just have so much fun with my photos that I can't stop. I'm on a roll . . .

It's people like this who make me laugh, and especially make the BRIDE laugh, that make me want to keep on shooting weddings. These guys were never-ending with this jokes and comments.

I had a great time shooting Andy and Holly in their home. Andy works with Neil and I have known Holly from their work events and from being with her at neighborhood shin-digs. I got to know them well during their session and I am just amazed at how similar they are to us, and us to them. Neil told me one day that he and Andy think a lot alike. He is right. So much so it's a little freaky! But I am really happy they invited me into their home and into their first experience with maternity photograhy. They are the neatest couple and I hope we see much more of them!

Update - today they are proud parents of Madilyn. I can't remember her stats, but I am sure she was perfect in every way. I can't wait to meet her.

With the sudden illness and death of my grandpa, I have gotten really behind with my work. Thankfully I have clients who are more than understanding. I even got a sympathy card from my wedding couple in September - bless their hearts! I was finally able to finish up on proofing the (over 80!) photos from an outdoor session that I had in October. This family is just the cutest ever. I did their maternity pictures when they were pregnant with their precious Madelyn. It's such a pleasure and honor to photograph familes like theirs as they grow and expand. I had a great time. Thanks guys! Here are a few from our evening . . .

I got to photograph a very special wedding 5 weeks ago. A dear friend from high school got married and I was lucky enough to be a part of their special day. We had a super great time. Kalina was just so so so beautiful. The wedding itself was held at a vineyard outdoors. It was so amazing. Kalina put so much work into the day and wow, did she pull it off! I wish I had more than just 2 pictures to show at this moment, but I am in the mist of still working on them. So here is a sneak peak of Ben & Kalina... More to come. Enjoy!

I had the best wedding last night.

I was a little hesitant and worried about the day, as I knew there were going to be 8 bridesmaids, 8 groomsmen, 2 ushers, 2 flower girls and 425 guests. I especially panicked as we pulled into the church parking lot because the church appeared to be very small. But my outlook sure changed the moment my groom told me he didn't want to button his suit because he wanted his pictures fun and relaxed. He said "that's who I am". I said "awesome, this is my last wedding of the year. Make it fun for me!". And they totally did just that.

Sometimes I will have a bridesmaid, mother, etc who would like to take control or who are not the friendliest. That was not the case with Janna and Keith's wedding. They were all so fun, so helpful, so kind to me. It was so wonderful.

Each wedding is so different. Each so unique. That's why I love shooting weddings so much. Even though at each wedding the day goes exactly the same from start to finish, it never really is the same, if you know what I mean. And it's at the reception where I really see this when the best man and maid of honor give their speeches. So often I find myself crying because I see just how much these people love their best friends. I don't even know these people well, but I still find myself with a strange connection with each of them. I find myself celebrating their joys as friends, just as I celebrate the joy I see and feel in the couple. I know this all sounds cheesey, but this really is why I love my weddings so much.

This wedding I especially felt a connection with. I have only met the couple once, and that was to do their engagement photos. But at the reception I learned that these two had known each other since grade school, dated since 7th grade, and got married right after college. They were still in love, but you could also tell they were the best of friends. They know absolutely everything there is to know about each other, and you could see that in the way they were so comfortable with each other. It was really neat. And then I thought. Oh my gosh, that's me and Neil! We haven't dated since 7th grade, but we have known each other since Neil was in 3rd grade and I was in 4th. We started dating his junior year of high school. We dated all through college and married the summer after graduation. They were us! It was neat to see because you don't see it that often. Their love is different from most that I see. It's a comfortable love that is just so precious and unique.

I also loved this wedding because they made me feel so welcomed. They sat Heather and I at the usher's table. That has NEVER happened. They made us a part of their wedding day, not just as people they are paying. But more like friends. A woman poured the wedding party their champagne, apparently there was still some in the bottle, and she wondered what to do with it. One of the groomsmen said, "give it to the photographer!". So that same groomsmen went to get me a glass and gave me the rest. It was just so nice of him.

So I thank you, guys. I wish you endless moments of joy and happiness. Thank you for having me as a big part of your day. Thank you for making my last wedding of the year a very memorable one. And thanks for having such a great baker! The cake was beautiful but it tasted AMAZING!

I had the best doula ever when I had my little Miss Maia. Her name is Leann. When I called her up, I had absolutely no idea that she was a friend...actually my childhood babysitter...and we both put two-and-two together to come to that realization. It was pretty neat. Definitely was meant to be. I don't believe in coincidences.

So she got me through my pregnancy without much worry and she got me through one of the roughest labors ever without too many tears. I know that Neil and I would not have made it through like we did without her being there. So thank you again, Leann. I would have never ever had it any other way. You actually inspired me, and still do. God definitely put you on this earth to do what you are doing.

Ella C. One of my most favorite subjects. Probably because she is my niece. My dear sweet little niece. And I am hoping she will be my daughter's best friend. It might be hard with Ella living in Oklahoma, but it can work. Two of my very dearest friends grew up in Chicago and Iowa. We wrote hand-written, yes, hand-written, letters all the time to one another. So in this day and age with email, I know their friendship can endure. *smile* Going off topic now...

Anyhow, I wanted to share a composite that I did of her. I sent this to Ella's mommy and daddy (Chel and Brad) as a house-warming gift when they moved to OK. I kinda sorta think they liked it based on Chel's reaction when she received it. Thanks for being excited over my work, Chel! Best wishes in OK! Love you guys...xo

Today my biz had 15 seconds of fame in the local newspaper. I'm so excited. I wouldn't have known, either, if I hadn't had a call at 7:00 am this morning from a person wanting to know about my wedding prices. Yes, at 7 in the morning! I was still in bed! It actually kind of freaked me out getting a phone call this earling in the morning! HA! But how exciting, too. Just in one day I've had more interested clients than I normally get in one month! I feel so incredibly blessed.

I love pregnant bellies

In my opinion, there is nothing more beautiful and amazing than a pregnant woman. Which is why I enjoy photographing them so much. I think they are my most favorite subject. We always have a really great time in our sessions. But I am also very lucky because I always have great clients to work with.

My last session was with Jennifer and Ryan. We had a really great time. Jennifer just radiated and I think you can feel that in her pictures. Which is exactly why I wanted to show you some of my favorites.

By the looks of the photos, you can probably tell that big brother, O, can't wait to meet his little sister. He had a lot of fun at the shooting. It was hard for me not to hold my concentration on him because he easily stole the show. Thanks to all three of you for a wonderful day. Good luck with everything come Friday. Jennifer's baby is breech. She will deliver the baby girl by scheduled c-section. I wish you nothing but goodness. And I cannot wait to meet new baby R.

Cards, cards and more cards!

I've begun playing around with card design and and am really amazed with how much I love doing it. It probably doesn't surprise you, however, because you know that I graduated in graphic design, so it's right down my alley. It's just that when I was in school, I was in school, and doing projects were never that fun. I procrastinated like crazy and usually was racking my brain for quick ideas at 3:00 in the morning before a project was due, never wanting to actually do it. Now I'm still doing late-nighters (or early mornings...however you look at it!) but that's because I love my work and get so caught up in it, I can't walk away from my computer. There's nothing like designing greeting cards. The possibilities are endless, and so I have great fun with each design I do.

Christmas is around the corner and I'm starting ideas for my own Christmas cards. If you are interested in having some made, please give me a ring. I have a few going on right now, and can probably take on a few more. But orders must be placed by November 1st.

And of course, babies are being born all year round. So if you would like an announcement custom-made for you and your new special delivery, please give me a call. Some examples of my work you will see here.

New Offerings

I am really excited about this new offering...really, it's my very first offering to you. I have the great opportunity to now offer you custom-designed leather bags! A favorite photo of your child, pet, husband, wedding portrait, anything (!) can be placed on a bag for you to show off for all to see. I offer custom-designed diaper bags, purses, wedding bags, cosmetic bags, small totes, large totes, and adorable tutu purses. You can't go wrong with one of these one-of-a-kind leather bags. (I am anxiously awaiting some for myself!)

New Happenings

Seems like thing are getting busier and busier for me with work, which is a wonderful thing! 5 years ago I never dreamed I'd have made it this far all by myself. So I'm to the point where I feel it's time to expand more outside the wedding world. One thing I have stumbled upon (thanks to Jen..she was my first model!) is natural light photography in my clients' homes. I think it's my new favorite thing! My very favorite subjects are babies and children, while I really enjoy the boudoir work I've done too.

How does it work? I come to you, in your home, where your child (or you) is most relaxed. I spend as much time as it takes (anywhere from 1-3 hours) shooting pictures of your child(ren) doing what they do best and most naturally - being themselves. My camera and I have been a part of bath times, play times, eating times, mommy and daddy time, and so on. I've also shot a handful of 1st birthday parties. The big bonus of this is, mommy and daddy don't have to worry with being behind a camera in hopes of that perfect moment comes along, not allowing the parent to really enjoy the celebration. That job becomes mine. It's a very enjoyable day for everyone and I really embrace the moment of being a part of these special times. So, here are a few examples from my in-home sessions. Digital Photography Here I come

I am well into my first year of "going digital" and I have to say, I am in love. It's amazing and finally (finally!) I get to utilize what I went to school for ~ graphic design. How exciting! It's going very well, too. I was pretty stressed out the first few weeks because it's just such a different process in all aspects. But I'm now accustomed to the work flow and with each job it gets easier and easier.

My first wedding I did half digital, half film. Here are some of my favorites above.
